The Baptism of Christ

The work mostly follows the traditional iconography, with the Father and the dove above while John the Baptist pours from a shell and angels stand by to dry Jesus with cloths. The one striking exception is the figure of the archangel at the Father's right hand, the position in which we see the Son in so many images of the Trinity (example).

1 The church's guide book claims only that the work is "attributed" to Tintoretto, on the Authority of Lorenzetti, Venezia e il suo estuario (1926). The style is certainly consistent with the master's; note especially the figures of the Father and the archangel floating almost horizontally above the scene.
